Growth Mindset
The Growth Mindset Blooming in a Significant Learning Environment
The mind is a very powerful thing. What we tell ourselves can either prevent change or encourage it. As I study mindsets, I am reminded that the development is not only for me but for learners as well.
According to Dr. Carol Dweck (2006), "The Growth Mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts, your strategies, and help from others" (p.7).
Dr. Carol Dweck also writes, “This Growth Mindset allows people to value what they're doing regardless of the out come" (p.48).
As I reflect on what it means to have a fixed mindset, I realize that learners tend to avoid challenges or may feel dumb with failure or setbacks. They may not even try to learn from mistakes causing them to be driven by negative perceptions.

Focused on Learning
Impact on my Innovation Plan
If I really want to change my learning environment, I need to focus my attention on the learning. I want my learning environment to be one that is bold and fearless especially when challenges arise. I will be working extra hard to make my learners' experiences more personal so I must model taking on challenges without fear of failing. I will remain positive when I feel like I'm at a crossroad and encourage others to do the same.
- I want my learners to feel like their learning is so much more than grades
- Feed back on learning is not just grades
- Getting Gritty: Persevere with passion and dedication
"Rethink" The Power of YET
